What is TANGO2?
TANGO2 deficiency disorder is a rare genetic disorder caused by variants in the TANGO2 gene. Affected individuals experience episodes of acute illness called metabolic crises, which are often life threatening and can have a long term and life altering impact.
There are also additional signs and symptoms which can occur both within and outside of metabolic crisis such as seizures, unsteady gait, intellectual disability, regression of cognition and motor skills, episodic muscle weakness and instant onset fatigue episodes among others.
There is no cure for the disorder, but research is underway to better understand and treat this disease.
